How Official IELTS Band Score Rounding Works
The overall band score is calculated by taking the arithmetic mean of the four module scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking). The resulting average is rounded to the nearest half or whole band:
Ends in .25 → Rounds UP to .50.
Example: 6.25 becomes Overall Band 6.5
Example: 6.25 becomes Overall Band 6.5
Ends in .75 → Rounds UP to the next whole band.
Example: 7.75 becomes Overall Band 8.0
Example: 7.75 becomes Overall Band 8.0
